Why is shipping so expensive?
Water weighs
8.34 pounds per gallon. A box of fish
can range from 25 to 50 pounds depending
on how much water we need to put in the
box! We do not have a FedEx driver come
and pick the fish up. We don't want the
fish riding around all day in a hot truck
with someone who doesn't care if they live
or die. Our ponds manager personally drives
them to the FedEx terminal at the airport
50 miles away in his truck. Gas is not cheap
as you know, and his time is worth something.
He waits until the last possible moment
(late afternoon) to pack and ship them to
cut down on any problems with any delays
so they get to you before noon the next
day. The shipping materials are expensive.
The fish need to be shipped in a costly
Styrofoam container with ice packs. Additionally
we pay extra to get AM delivery. The only
way to say this is that we give "Special
Handling" to the fish we ship.
When you get
your fish, and you see how well they are
packed, then you will understand why shipping
overnight with AM delivery is justified.
